Mouthful Of Diamonds #phantogram
It’s that special time of year;
ChristmasWarped Tour is almost here. You know what that means, right? It means that we’re all about to get really sweaty on pavement and dirt, but it’s worth it, isn’t it? Of course it is.Warped Tour kicks off next Saturday, and the PropertyOfZack has put together Our Must-See Bands And Acts for this summer’s traveling circus of our musical heartbeat. We’ll be having tons of pre-Warped coverage over the next 10 or so days, so be sure to keep up with us. Check out SideOneDummy’s Warped Tour comp here and reblog and let us know who we need to see at Warped as well!
Man Overboard
These guys deserve a spot in any Warped Tour preview, if for no other reason than that the “Defend Pop Punk” tee has become the unofficial uniform of sweaty Summer afternoons in dusty parking lots. But if Man Overboard might be better known for their style than their substance, the newly released LP Heart Attack is a solid step towards flipping that equation. With bang-up first week sales numbers, it seems the band’s music might finally be catching up to their logo in popularity; catch their set and find out for yourself. - Jesse Richman
August Burns Red
Year after year, Warped Tour serves up a slew of metalcore outfits to eager onlookers, but many of those bands prove to be nothing more than the next flavor of the week. This summer, one band will once again break the mold. Armed with a new album (Rescue & Restore, in stores June 25 via Solid State Records), August Burns Red will once again grace Warped Tour’s stage all summer long, captivating audiences with their immaculate blend of aggression and technical wizardry.Rarely short on energy, the veteran quintet will be making their third appearance on the annual summer circus. Known largely for their ability to replicate studio recordings with precision and poise in a live setting, August Burns Red are a sight to be seen. Promising an inspiring, high-powered performance bound to get hearts racing, the metalcore outfit simply must not be missed. - Brandon Allin
Citizen
When heading out to Warped this summer, the band at the top of your must-see list should be Citizen, especially if you like to tell your friends that you “listened to that band before they were huge.” Citizen is going to be larger than life.Their LP “Youth,” set for release on June 11 via Run For Cover Records (although after some unexpected events, it is now currently available on Bandcamp for $5) is going to be groundbreaking for this band and for this music scene. The album shows that these guys have been working hard to make something amazing to being to the table, and they definitely did. You’ll be able to pick this release up well before your local Warped Tour date, so make sure you do; then go check these guys on the Kevin Says stage all summer. Not doing so would be a huge mistake and just plain dumb. — Brittany Oblak
RDGLDGRN
Like the combination of Old Bay seasoning and french fries, RDGLDGRN makes two things that seem like they’re totally wrong for each other work. Based outside of Washington, D.C., RDGLDGRN is a group that blends hip-hop music and indie rock together. Members of RDGLDGRN hide their identities as RED (guitar), GOLD (bass and vocals), and GREEN (vocals and guitar). The group has also collaborated with with Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.) and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana).This year, RDGLDGRN released their debut EP, “Red Gold Green,” which features their breakout singles “I Love Lamp” and “Million Fans.” (“Hey O” is my personal favorite.) RDGLDGRN may be new on the scene, but they’re going to blow up by next year as they continue to impress audiences across the nation. This is the group that everyone should have their eyes on at Warped Tour. - Sydney Gore
Motion City Soundtrack
Vans Warped Tour veterans Motion City Soundtrack are set to make their first appearance on the tour in three years, and the Minnesotan rockers are high on my must-see list. Since the release of their debut LP, I Am The Movie, more than ten years ago, Motion City Soundtrack has been one of the most consistent bands in the scene, with one of the most devoted fan bases to match. Catch a Motion City Soundtrack set and you’ll quickly see why: their shows are lively, engaging, and intensely passionate in a way that is difficult to describe to someone who has never experienced it firsthand.
Editor in Chief Erik van Rheenen had the chance to catch up with our friends in Mixtapes at Skate And Surf a few weeks ago for an in-depth interview. Erik, Ryan, Maura, Boone, and Paul discussed the band’s new album, Ordinary Silence, the band’s evolution,…
So I really would love it if someone gave me this card, although I don’t like cake.
These arrived at the office today. Look pretty incredible. Screen printed by our wonderful friends at Hellfish Family! You can purchase one of these beautiful LPs via our online store HERE.
